Hampshire County Council lists it as open 9:30am to 5pm Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Saturday, 9:30am to 1:30pm on Thursday, and closed on Sundays and public holidays (checked 5 October 2026). Anyone living, working or studying in Hampshire can join, online or in person, with no ID needed.

Where it is and when it is open

Petersfield Library is at 27 The Square, Petersfield, GU32 3HH. Hampshire County Council's Petersfield Library page (checked 5 October 2026) lists these opening hours: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9:30am to 5pm; Thursday 9:30am to 1:30pm; Friday and Saturday 9:30am to 5pm; Sunday closed. It is closed on public holidays, and the public computers turn off 15 minutes before the building closes.

Note the short Thursday: the library closes at 1:30pm that day, not 5pm.

Getting there

Facilities

The page lists WiFi, printing and copying, public computers, accessible toilets, a hearing loop, a lift, a bicycle rack, baby changing, and registered assistance dogs welcome. It also lists blood pressure monitors for loan.

The library page says the building also houses a Citizens Advice drop-in, a Barclays Local service and a Police Third Party Reporting Centre.

Citizens Advice is listed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9:30am to 4pm and Saturdays 9:30am to 12:30pm, with no need to book. The page describes it as help with legal, consumer, housing and other issues.

Barclays Local is listed every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm. The page describes a cashless and paperless service that can help with servicing requests, digital support for the Barclays app and online banking, opening new products via the banking app only, and fraud and scam awareness. Appointments are bookable via the link on the library page.

Joining and renewing

Anyone living, working or studying in Hampshire can join Hampshire Libraries, according to the membership page (checked 5 October 2026). You can join online or in person at any library, and no identification is needed. Adult, under 18 and concession memberships are listed.

The council no longer automatically issues a library card when you join online. It points to the Spydus Library app for managing your account. If you want a physical card, ask at a library. Under-16s need a guarantor's details to join online.

You can renew online, through the library app or at any library. Items already reserved by someone else cannot be renewed, and fines over £30 must be paid before you can renew, reserve or borrow.

Regular sessions for children and adults

These are listed on the library page as of 5 October 2026 and can change, so check the page before you go. For children: Baby Play Time (Fridays 10am to 11:30am, babies up to 1 year), Rhymetime (Wednesdays 10:30am to 11am), Story, Songs and Rhymes (Tuesdays 10:30am to 10:50am, ages 3 to 5), Storytime (Saturdays 11am to 11:30am, for under 8s), Mini Masquerades (Thursdays 10am to 12:30pm), Drop-In and Play (Tuesdays 3:15pm to 4:30pm) and Saturday Club with Lego and games (Saturdays 1:30pm to 3:30pm, parents and carers to stay).

For adults: Crafters Corner (Fridays 10am to midday), Rummikub Club (Wednesdays 10:30am to midday) a Poetry Group (every third Wednesday of the month, 2pm to 4:30pm) and a VIP Reading Group for people with sight loss (every second Tuesday of the month, 2:30pm to 4pm).
