Petersfield School Term Dates 2026/27: Terms, Half Terms and INSET Days
Community and voluntary controlled schools in Petersfield follow the term dates set by Hampshire County Council, then add their own INSET days. Here are the 2026/27 dates in one place, with the INSET days local schools have published.
Hampshire's 2026/27 school year runs from Tuesday 1 September 2026 to Wednesday 21 July 2027. Half terms are 26 to 30 October 2026, 15 to 19 February 2027 and 31 May to 4 June 2027. Christmas holidays start after Friday 18 December 2026. Schools add their own INSET days, so check your school. Checked 5 October 2026.
Who sets the dates
Hampshire County Council sets term and holiday dates for community and voluntary controlled schools. Its school holiday dates page says voluntary aided schools, foundation schools and some academies may also use these dates, but they are free to set their own. Independent schools set their own terms too.
So treat the dates below as the county pattern, and check your own school's calendar, especially if it is an academy or an independent school. The council adds that dates can occasionally change for reasons outside its control.
Autumn term 2026
The autumn term starts on Tuesday 1 September 2026 and ends on Friday 18 December 2026.
Autumn half term is Monday 26 October to Friday 30 October 2026.
The Christmas holiday runs from Monday 21 December 2026 to Friday 1 January 2027.
Spring term 2027
The spring term starts on Monday 4 January 2027 and ends on Thursday 25 March 2027.
Spring half term is Monday 15 February to Friday 19 February 2027.
The Easter holiday runs from Friday 26 March, which is Good Friday, to Friday 9 April 2027. Easter Monday is 29 March 2027 (bank holiday dates from gov.uk).
Summer term 2027
The summer term starts on Monday 12 April 2027 and ends on Wednesday 21 July 2027.
The May Day bank holiday is Monday 3 May 2027.
Summer half term is Monday 31 May to Friday 4 June 2027. Monday 31 May is the spring bank holiday.
The summer holiday starts on Thursday 22 July 2027.
INSET days published by local schools
INSET days are staff training days when pupils do not attend. Hampshire County Council says five days are available for these closures during term time, chosen by each school's headteacher and governors. They come out of the term dates above, so the first day back is not always the first day of term for pupils. These are the days published on school websites when we checked on 5 October 2026.
Herne Junior School lists its 2026/27 INSET days as Tuesday 1 September 2026, Wednesday 2 September 2026, Friday 27 November 2026, Thursday 25 March 2027 and Monday 7 June 2027, on its dates for your diary page.
Sheet Primary School lists its INSET days as 1 September 2026, 2 September 2026, 4 January 2027, 12 April 2027 and 7 June 2027, on its term dates page.
For every other school, check its website or newsletter. Do not assume neighbouring schools share INSET days: the two lists above already differ.
Taking children out in term time
Term-time absence has to be authorised by the school, and schools can only grant leave in limited circumstances. Speak to the school office before booking anything. The national rules are on gov.uk.

Hampshire County Council has also published 2027/28. The autumn term runs from Wednesday 1 September to Friday 17 December 2027, with half term from Monday 25 to Friday 29 October 2027. The spring term runs from Tuesday 4 January to Friday 31 March 2028, with half term from Monday 14 to Friday 18 February 2028. The Easter holiday is Monday 3 April to Monday 17 April 2028. The summer term runs from Tuesday 18 April to Friday 21 July 2028, with half term from Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June 2028.
