Petersfield Bin Collection Days: Find Your Day and What Goes in Each Bin

Bins in Petersfield are collected by East Hampshire District Council. Your day depends on your address, so here is how to look it up, what goes in each bin, and what to do if yours is missed.

There is no single bin day for Petersfield: it depends on your address. Enter your address in East Hampshire District Council's waste day finder at easthants.gov.uk/waste-day-finder. Refuse (green bin), recycling (black bin) and glass (box) are collected fortnightly, food waste weekly. Bins must be at the edge of your property by 6am. Checked 5 October 2026.

How to find your bin day

Petersfield's household bins are collected by East Hampshire District Council (EHDC), and the day varies from street to street. The quickest way to check is the council's waste day finder: search for your address and it shows your next refuse, recycling, glass, food waste and (if you subscribe) garden waste collections.

If you would rather have a printable calendar, EHDC publishes numbered PDF calendars on its find your bin calendar page. Calendars 1 to 4 are Monday rounds, 5 to 8 Tuesday, 9 to 12 Wednesday, 13 to 16 Thursday and 17 to 20 Friday. The current set runs from October 2025 to October 2026, and the council says the next set will begin in November 2026, so expect a new calendar shortly. If you do not know your calendar number, the same page explains how to look it up by address.

How often each bin is collected

According to EHDC (checked 5 October 2026), refuse, recycling, glass and garden waste collections follow a fortnightly pattern, except over Christmas and New Year. Food waste is collected weekly.

The colours catch out people who have moved from elsewhere. In East Hampshire the green bin is for refuse and the black bin is for recycling. Glass goes in a separate box, and food waste goes in a small outdoor caddy.

When to put your bin out

Put your bin at the boundary of your property by 6am on collection day. EHDC's missed bin page is clear that a bin which was not out by 6am, or not placed on the boundary, will not be collected and the crew will not return for it.

What goes in the recycling (black) bin

EHDC asks for recycling to be clean, dry and loose, not in plastic bags. The council's what can and can't go in your bins page lists paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, food tins and drinks cans, and empty aerosols without lids.

Several things that are recycled at the kerbside in other areas are not accepted in the black bin here: plastic pots, tubs and trays, carrier bags and film, cartons such as Tetra Pak, foil, pizza boxes, shredded paper, textiles and glass. The council says the range will only widen once a new sorting facility in Eastleigh is open, which its Simpler Recycling page expects to be operational in 2028.

If the crew finds the wrong items in your recycling bin, they will put a hanger on it and leave it. You then have to remove the contamination and wait for your next collection.

What goes in the refuse (green) bin

Refuse should be bagged in sturdy plastic bags. It takes the things the black bin does not: plastic pots, tubs and trays, plastic bags and film, polystyrene, cartons and shredded paper. Ash, vacuum dust, nappies, animal waste and cat litter should be double-bagged. Garden waste, rubble, wood, paint and other hazardous waste are not accepted.

Glass

Glass bottles and jars of any colour go in a 38-litre box, rinsed and without corks or tops. The box must weigh less than 5.5kg or the crew will not lift it, and cardboard boxes should not be used. You can use more than one suitable plastic box if you have a lot of glass. Pyrex, light bulbs, window glass, ceramics and broken glass are not accepted. See EHDC's glass recycling page.

Food waste

EHDC's food waste collections page says the weekly food waste service is now live (checked 5 October 2026). Most homes get a five-litre kitchen caddy and a 23-litre outdoor caddy, which is the one you put out. It takes all cooked and raw food, including meat, fish, bones, dairy, bread, tea bags and coffee grounds. It does not take packaging, liquids, cooking oil or garden waste. Check your food waste day in the waste day finder, as the council lists it alongside your other collections.

Missed bins

If your bin was out on time and was not emptied, first check the service update at the top of EHDC's missed bin page, which lists any roads the crews could not reach and when they will return. Otherwise leave the bin out and report it through your MyEHDC account. Reports must be made before 4pm on the next working day after your collection was due. Miss that deadline and you wait for the next scheduled collection.

New bins, extra bins and help putting bins out

Bins are ordered through MyEHDC. Prices on the council's request a new bin page on 5 October 2026 were £86 for a 240-litre bin, £63 for a 140-litre bin and £17 for a 38-litre glass box, all including delivery. The council says delivery should take no more than four weeks.

If you cannot move your bins because of illness or disability and nobody else in the household can help, you can apply for an assisted collection. If you cannot use the online form, the council's number for this is 01730 234295.
